Modern Architecture & Design 3

Nov15

Partners Cara Cummins and Jose Tavel of TaC Studios

As a lover of all things “design” related, we are definitely Trade Magazine junkies! And I have to say that we were not disappointed by the December issue of Metropolitan Home.
We came across this amazing home built by the home owners themselves, Jose Tavel and Cara Cummins of TaC Studios. TaC Studios, is a full service architectural firm located in Atlanta, Georgia.
We had the pleasure of speaking to Jose and shared with him how much we enjoyed this article and what he and his wife Cara had created. We are thrilled to share these photos as this blend of Modern Architecture and eclectic design is the way we like to decorate homes but this Atlanta home is a level up!
What initially attracted us to this home was the way the interiors were designed. And then seeing that they built and designed the home with many materials that were recycled and or locally procured, keeping it green- because every little bit helps! Made us admire this home more.
We love this homes mix of modern furniture and eclectic furnishings and accessories. Like the womb chair & ottoman with African stools and custom media cabinet built by Tavel. The beautiful canvas was done by his wife Cara. WOW, this couple is not short on talent! Right off the dining room is a Le Corbusier chaise and Eileen Gray table under a wall of custom designed floating shelves with a collection of American Folk art. This home breaks the myth that Modern design is cold and industrial with the rich warm tones on the floor to the colors and textures that the decorative items provide. Very well done!!
This 3 story, 3 bedroom home with a roof deck has it all. It functions as the couple’s home office for TaC Studio on the first floor, while the 2nd level has the living room, kitchen and dining room and has an open loft feel with so much light from the huge windows. The bedrooms are on the 3rd floor.

We love the deck. The back yard has a rear water fountain and gravel ground cover with bamboo and other lush plantings. We just want to move in!

Furniture and Fashion 2

Furniture and fashion: it’s like the “chicken and the egg” reference.

They are forever crossing over in inspiration from the shapes to the fabric like a great boucle or wool sweater to a Eero Saarinen’s Womb Chair made with the same fabric. Or even the way furniture is used in advertising for a fashion designer like in this ad with Madonna in Versace sitting on the Eames Soft Pad Chair or Morgan Fairchild sitting on Arne Jacobsen’s Egg Chair in a Old Navy Ad.

Another example of Furniture and Fashion: I came across a shoe that was called the Eamz shoe in a fashion magazine. It was by a company called United Nude and has established itself as an iconic brand at the intersection between design and fashion. The line is Inspired by furniture designers Charles and Ray Eames The heels shape was conceptually inspired by an Eames Chair.

The collection of shoes are structurally beautiful and gravity defying.

The Womb Chair Reproduction: It’s Back 0

After a little hiatus, our famous Womb Chair reproduction is back! Not only is it back, it’s back better than ever. We have refined the Womb Chair reproduction in many ways:

- Increased thickness of the melton wool fabric (provides texture similar to original Knoll boucle’)

- Added microfiber and leather options versus wool only. The leather and microfiber options are currently special order, but we can do it. Contact us at 877-PGMOD-07 if you have question.

- Added strength of fiberglass shell. We’ve also increased the weight capacity of the chair, making it even stronger for commercial or residential usage.

Even with all the changes, we’re still offering the Womb Chair Reproduction + Ottoman at the same low price of $1,395 for wool and microfiber, and leather is slightly higher at $1,795 for standard leather, and additional for semi and full aniline leather options.

We got an immense amount of response when we removed the Womb Chair late last year. Every week, we were flooded with calls, “I’ve heard great things about your Womb Chair, I don’t see it on the site”, etc. We told you guys we’d bring it back, and it’s here to stay now.

We’re here for you. If you have any questions, give us a buzz at 877-PGMOD-07 and we’ll help you out.
